PLUOTS:
Pluots are a cross between and plums and apricots. The pluot is a new fruit that was developed by Floyd Zaiger in the 1990s. There are several varieties of pluots with colors that range from pink to red. The pluot is sweeter than both of its parents, the plum and the apricot.
I saw these at Costco today. They were $8.49....they were SO very good! Like the sweetest plum ever but, tastier!
It's interesting that it's a plum/apricot hybrid. When I was a child growing up in the Nebraska countryside, we had two orchards. and a plum hedge. The apple orchard was large and untended but still yielded hundreds of good apples. The apricot orchard was very large too. My siblings and I remember sitting in the apricot trees feasting on them. Lots of folks aren't the apricot fans we are. I can say I really know what an apricot tastes like. And the pluot doesn't have an obvious apricot flavor. But, it's a delicious interesting flavor and the apricot must have something to do with that.
Oh now you have my curiosity peaked big time! Will just have to try one of these gems! Since I do love both plums and apricots!!

ReplyDeleteooooo - - - this is a NEW hybrid to me. Looks yummy.
ReplyDeleteThose look amazing!
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of it! I was in the store and picked those up, once in a while I'm risky that way. Later while shopping (Costco is BIG) I saw my brother-in-law with his sister, and my niece and nephew. They saw that box of fruit and asked what it was, "I said, Pluots." them, "what are they", me, "I don't know". Then lots of loud laughter. After that Alex (my niece) notice my shirt was on inside out and more laughter. I said, "good, now everyone can feel sorry for me".
ReplyDeleteThis is paraphrased from an e mail in response to Keetha.
OK- these are new to me down here in hot, south Texas.

You know, I saw those just last weekend at Sam's for the first time. They sounded good, but I resisted. I'm going to have to go back and pick some up. My teenage son (actually a vegan) loves fruit, so I'm sure he'll like them as much as your son.

ReplyDeleteI wonder how they would taste over shortcake, and with some whipped cream:)
I have had one of those before, but I didn't know what it was called. They are delicious!

These are new to me. They sound delicious but unless I go the US I dont think I'll ever get the chance to try one. I suppose they might reach the UK in about five years time after they've been though all the strict EU regulations on food!
ReplyDeleteYorkiepoos, labradoodles, brocciflower, and now pluots! They do sound delicious because I love both. Will be in Costco tomorrow and check them out! Thanks for the tip :)
ReplyDeleteMorning....thanks so much for coming by!! No,I just had that tag from something, but nothing to do with the silverware, would be a nice name for it though! All the best,Chrissy
ReplyDeleteI never heard of these, but I'll be on the lookout. Would have never bought them without the recommendation. If they past the son test, they have to be good.
ReplyDeleteI see these in the store and have been interested, but never tried them. Now I will give them a try.

ReplyDeleteOh my! I'm glad you told us about these. My daughter went to the store w/hubby and brought home some plums yesterday and was telling me that she saw something called pluots. They didn't buy any, but I'll have to tell her what you said and pick some up.
